Nikka Single Malt Yoichi on a forest path
One of my favourite Japanese whiskies comes from the Nikka distillery in Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido. The cool, temperate climate in the town of Yoichi is not so different from Strathspey, Scotland, where the distillery’s founder - Masataka Taketsuru - did his apprenticeship in 1919. You can taste the Scottish influence in each sip, but the peat smoke is tempered by more Asian notes of citrus and ginger. A thoroughly enjoyable dram.
